EXPRESSIVE MIXED MEDIA ABSTRACTS THAT UPLIFT AND INSPIRE

Art is a freedom. It's a beautiful place to escape to. It calms us. It energises us. It can change the dynamics and emotion of a space.

I am originally a Yorkshire lass and proud of my routes. Growing up, I spent many happy days exploring nature, country houses, gardens and castles with my twin sister. They were our playground.

I was also equally fascinated by the abandoned steelworks, factories and graffitied tower blocks of Sheffield. With a close family connection to coal mining and the steel works, the mystery of old industrial buildings is absolutely addictive to me. Swallowed in layers of decay, paint and nature. What lies beneath all those layers? I can’t resist a paint peeled wall or a defaced surface. Seeing a hint of what was there before fascinates me. I find absolute beauty in the worn, torn, decayed and forgotten. It's exciting and mysterious. This has evolved into my absolute love of layering.

Then there are the vibrant colours of graffitied walls. These also have a significant influence in my creativity. Energetic patterns and marks create positive energy and good feeling.

So, my love of the worn and decayed twists together with my passion for colour playing in tactile layers of paint, collage, fabric and hand stitching. Soft undertones mix with vibrant pops of colour to uplift and energise. I create on impulse and go with my heart letting my work flow naturally to progress to its own conclusion. My uninhibited and spontaneous layering has an unrehearsed and playful style which can create vulnerable yet powerful combinations.

An infusion of vivid colour and graffiti like marks can result in unexpected yet beautiful juxtapositions.
